Trauma Sensitive Accessible Yoga,
Somatic Experiencing®, and Somatic Movement and Mindfulness Practices
“The word yoga comes from Sanskrit, the language of ancient India. It means union, integration, or wholeness. It is an approach to health that promotes the harmonious collaboration of a human being's three components: body, mind and spirit/soul/heart.” - Stella Weller
I offer 3 ways that we might collaborate together:
Trauma Center - Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitation:
TCTSY is the oldest and only scientifically-validated trauma sensitive yoga care model in the world. As an Evidence-Based Intervention (EBI), like Cognitive Processing Therapy ("talk therapy"), TCTSY is based in the body, utilizing yoga movements as a way of connecting with oneself. Facilitation of TC-TSY requires continual education and mentorship in order to meet the standards of care that survivors of trauma deserve. TCTSY is unique, in that it employs interoception--or awareness of internal physical cues--to guide survivors toward restoring a felt sense of safety in their relationship to their body and to others.
TC-TSY is designed to support recovery from complex trauma. Each practice offers invitations to explore cultivating choice based on what you are noticing in your body. This model ensures that the safety of C-PTSD survivors is prioritized through private individual or small group sessions, invitational language, choice-making, non-coercion and shared authentic experience. In each session the empowerment of each individual is the priority. No yoga experience needed.

I offer individual as well as small group sessions in a variety of locations.
Somatic Experiencing®
Collaboration:
“SE”® is a body oriented modality supporting recovery from the effects of overwhelm on one’s nervous system, such as acute or complex trauma and other stress disorders. Body memories have a story to tell - and until they have the opportunity to express and move through one’s body, the energy of the overwhelm can remain stuck.
You will learn to work with a heightened awareness of body sensations, allowing survival energies to be slowly and safely experienced and gradually discharged, settling your nervous system.
For some, it is beneficial to process stuck energy from the past with an empathic other, a compassionate witness, to one’s lived experience. Perhaps in this way, you might move from fixity, to flow: reclaiming your capacity to be with life’s ups and downs. Enjoying healthier rhythms can enhance a person’s sense of aliveness and bring greater vitality.
The lifework of Peter Levine, PhD, Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) is a safe and effective way to help you recover from various levels of trauma and overwhelming stress and increase your resilience as you recover from life’s challenges, such as: an accident or injury, medical treatment or procedure, a natural disaster, military or combat trauma, or relational betrayal, mistreatment, abuse or loss.
Sessions are collaborative and specific to your needs. Learn more at www.traumahealing.org.
I collaborate virtually or in person in Colorado Springs.
Somatic Movement, Breath & Mindfulness Practices:
Through an understanding of your nervous system and a space to explore your relationship with your body, there is an invitation to be with yourself through movement, breath and mindfulness practices as seems useful to you. The intention is to leave more connected to yourself, engaging the practice and then perhaps your life, from the inside out.
Based on the work of Jenny McGrath with Indwell Movement, these practices are a combination of relational connection over a theme or focus, somatic education and music if supportive.
When life gets lifey, consider Mary Oliver’s words: “You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves…”
A variety of themes through which to explore embodiment are available, based on what you might be interested in.
How might practicing self-connection, together, be different from our culture’s commitment to individualism and efficiency at all costs? All sizes, abilities and bodies welcome!
I offer individual as well as small group sessions in a variety of locations.
